My Morning Routine
One thing I frequently get asked about is my morning routine. I’m often asked how I structure my mornings, what I consume in the morning, how I move my body in the morning and so on. So today I’m doing a full- very micro- breakdown of my mornings.
I’m a firm believer that the way we spend our morning- from the practices we do to the things we consume- sets us up for the rest of the day. Often times, when we start our mornings on the “wrong foot”, it feels like the rest of our day follows that pattern. You know those days where you can’t seem to catch a break? Yeah, same. Well those days, more times than not, usually start with whatever happened in the morning. To my point: having a morning routine is crucial to set the tone for the rest of the day.
My morning routine is sacred to me. It’s dedicated time to myself before the chaos of the day. It’s time to fill my own cup, create the energy I want to operate from, boost my mood, optimize productivity, and simply take care of me before taking care of anything else. When beginning my health journey, creating a morning routine was the first- and most important- thing I did. To this day, it’s allowed me the time and space to create beautiful rituals for my mind, body, and soul that I truly look forward to every single morning. Can you tell I love a morning routine, yet?
7AM: The first thing I don’t do in the morning is check my phone. The night before, I put my phone on airplane mode and when my alarm goes off in the morning, it stays like that for at least an hour. I immediately get up, tongue scrape to get rid of bacteria and toxins, brush my teeth using my favorite fluoride-free toothpaste, and splash my face with cold water. I then moisturize, gua sha, and use my Nuface facial toning device. I apply SPF to my face and we’re done. Simple!
7:30 AM: After that, we hydrate. I make warm lemon water (1/2 of a big lemon or 1 whole smaller lemon) with a pinch of Celtic sea salt. I drink this every single morning on an empty stomach to kickstart my digestion and deeply hydrate my body. Overnight, our bodies lose electrolytes and fluids, so when we wake up our bodies are dehydrated and in need of cellular hydration. Not drinking water for 6, 8, 9 hours (whatever it is for you) will do that, so it’s essential that we immediately hydrate. Water + lemon + salt gets the job done.
I also take my Seed Daily Synbiotic (CODE: BEWELL15) alongside my lemon water to promote healthy regularity and elimination, support digestion and gut health, and boost my immune system, Body Bio PC (CODE: BEWELL) to combat mitochondrial dysfunction from Mold + Lyme, boost brain health, and support cognitive function, Cymbiotika Liposomal Vitamin C for immunity, Liposomal Glutathione to support detoxification + liver function, and my (many) other specific-to-me Lyme + Mold supplements.
7:45 AM: Next up, sun! I take my lemon water and go sit outside in direct sunlight for 20 (ish) minutes. Exposure to morning light an hour within waking helps to regulate our circadian rhythm (our bodies internal alarm clock), supports healthy hormones, boosts the immune system, and also floods our bodies with Vitamin D. This is a non-negotiable for me- yes, even if it’s cloudy.
When I’m outside, I’m still not on my phone so this is when I like to do some deep breathing, my morning Joe Dispenza meditation, and read an excerpt from my daily meditation book.
Post meditation, I’ll grab my journal and do a brain dump. I’ll write anywhere from one to ten pages (lol). But no really, I just write until I don’t need to write anymore and it’s truly one of the most therapeutic practices I’ve ever done! I highly recommend a morning brain dump to let go of anything no longer serving you before the day starts.
8:30 AM: After some hydration coupled with morning sun, I move my body. I’m a big believer in short and sweet low-impact movement. I found that once I swapped my intense- multiple hour long- cardio sessions for 15-30 minute mat pilates or yoga, my mind and body completely transformed. My go-to workouts are Melissa Wood Health if I’m doing it at home or my favorite hot yoga sculpt class. Either way, I prioritize movement first thing in the morning, not only to feel physically vibrant and full of energy, but more importantly to clear my mind and boost my mood. Movement is medicine for the body and mind.
9 AM: After I’ve moved my body, I like to sit on my mat for a few minutes to practice gratitude and prayer. This practice is essential for my spiritual and emotional health. I’ll either grab my journal again and write a page of everything I’m grateful for or I’ll speak it out loud. For example: “I’m grateful the sun is out today, I’m grateful for the pilates flow I just did, I’m grateful for another day”. You get the gist.
After I’ve done my gratitude, I always say a prayer. This is also when I ask the Universe for guidance. I may ask for clarity on certain things or ask for a specific sign. Whatever it is, I always connect with the Universe to feel grounded. For me, spiritual health equals physical, mental, and emotional health and is a crucial part of my practice!
9:30 AM: Now onto my favorite part. Matcha. For those of you who know me, you know I’m not- and have never been- a coffee girl. However, I have a major obsession with matcha and it’s truly the highlight of my morning routine. The light at the end of the tunnel if you will.
So now for my delicious, clean, minimal ingredient matcha recipe:
1.Pique Life Sun Goddess Matcha or Sunlife Organics Matcha
3. Dash of maple syrup
4. Pinch of Celtic sea salt
5. Sprinkle of cinnamon on top- don’t forget this step, crucial.
Whisk the oat milk and maple syrup together- I do this over the stove. In a separate bowl, use your matcha whisk to whisk your matcha powder with boiling hot water. Once both the matcha mixture and milk mixture are frothed (separately), pour the matcha + water into the milk over the stove. Use your matcha whisk to whisk it all together until you have a (stunning) green color and a creamy, frothy consistency. Then add a dash of sea salt.
If you’re obsessed with frothed oat milk like me, add a little more oat milk into your milk frother.
Pour your stovetop matcha into a cup. Add your frothed milk on top. Top with cinnamon. Delish!
10:00 AM: I now fill up my big hydro flask with water, grab my computer, journal, and sit down at my desk to start work for the day. I usually write out a big to- do list along with personal goals for the day.
Later in the morning I’ll make a 20-25 oz green juice- plain celery juice or celery cucumber- and I’ll wait 30 minutes before drinking or eating anything else to ensure my body effectively absorbs the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients from the juice.
Afterwards, I’ll make a big fruit bowl with cocojune coconut yogurt- I love vanilla chamomile. I’ll add cinnamon, cacao nibs, and a dash of sea salt on top. I’ve eaten this bowl for breakfast for the last few years- almost every single day- and it brings me pure joy. It’s delicious and helps my body in cleansing and detoxification, supports elimination, and floods my cells with vitamins and minerals.
The morning for me is not only a time to energetically cleanse but also a crucial time to physically cleanse. Our bodies are like flowers. When we wake up in the morning, our body needs hydration and alkalinity. We need to hydrate our cells and feed our bodies vibrant, alkaline foods to support energy, digestion, and vibrancy. For me, this looks like hydrating with lemon water and green juice and eating fruits that cleanse the body for the morning hours of the day. Following a cleansing diet- especially in the morning- makes so much sense to me and has really supported my body in deep healing and regeneration.
And that concludes my (very) in-depth- morning routine. I hope this inspires you to create a morning routine that fuels your mind, body, soul.
