Living a Detoxifying Life

What does it mean to live a detoxifying life? A detoxifying&cleansing life is not a three day juice cleanse, an intermittent fast, or a restrictive diet. It’s a lifestyle and an everyday practice that prioritizes physical, spiritual, and emotional cleansing. It’s the act of continually releasing toxicity - through what we eat, what we eliminate, and all that we let go of energetically - to feel light, vibrant, and clear in our bodies and minds.

One thing about cleansing and detoxification is that it’s more than just about what you’re putting in your body. Rather, cleansing and detoxification is about what’s coming out. If we are not releasing and eliminating, we are not actively detoxing. In addition to elimination, cleansing and detoxification looks like moving through resistance, releasing old emotions, working through trauma, and eliminating the old buildup and stagnancy that creates inner toxicity and waste. An accumulation of waste is the culprit of all dis-ease. It’s where we begin to feel clogged, heavy, dull, and sluggish.

When we are able to release not only on a physical level, but on an energetic and emotional level, our well-being and vitality begins to blossoms and thrive. This lifestyle becomes imbedded into our daily routines, the food we eat, and in the toxic beliefs and thought patterns that we release over and over again. Cleansing is a way of living, practicing, and being that becomes ritual - because once you begin to feel clear in your body, why would you ever want to go back?

To live a cleansed life means to eat digestible, clear, alkaline vibrant foods - simple, whole foods from the earth abundant in vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. When we eat hydrating, plant-rich foods from the earth, the vibrational state that we live in changes and we begin to shed what no longer belongs. When it comes to food, simplicity heals the body. Living a cleansed life also means adopting tools that we come back to on a daily basis that allow for deep release: meditation, breath work, journaling, daily movement, grounding, and time spent outside and in nature. Stored emotions create toxicity in the body and inner toxicity turns into dis-ease. When we hold onto negative emotions, heaviness, tension… our body responds. This might look like an inability to digest what we eat or physical weight that just won’t go away no matter what we do.

Simply put: Cleansing&detoxification is the elimination of what no longer belongs in the body (toxins, waste, pathogens, dead cellular debris) and the practice of continually letting go (through deep inner work) to clear space in our bodies and minds so we feel light on our feet and can keep our head above water.

What a cleansing & detoxifying life looks like to me:

  • Eating 90% plants - fruits & vegetables, green juices, herbs & consuming an abundance of whole real foods from the earth.

  • Moving your body daily - get your body moving to stimulate the lymphatic system, get your blood circulating, and creating internal flow. When we move our bodies & prioritize daily exercise, our bodies are able to

  • Prioritizing daily mindfulness - meditation, breath work, journaling, releasing tension, and letting go of negative thoughts and emotions.

  • Elimination - eating digestible & cleansing foods that assist our bodies in regularity and elimination. The most important aspect of detoxification is elimination (release) which ensures our bodies are internally in flow.

When we eat in a cleansing way, our food supports our body in this lightness. When we release emotions and stored emotions, our inner state also supports our body in this lightness. The act of clearing space both physically and mentally is where deep and transformational cleansing happens both internally and externally.
